“The space for what you want is already filled with what you settled for instead.”
~ Richard Bach
What life do you want to create this year? And what will you need to let go of to make room for whatever that is?
Standing here, in this moment of this day, as you inhabit the richness of the harvest time and look toward winter’s fallow quiet, I invite you to reflect for a minute:
- What do you want to gather in from this year to nourish you?
- What do you want to let fall away?
- What overgrowth do you want to prune away to make room for what you want to grow in your life?
- What seeds might you want to plant in the spring, and how will you nurture them into the glories of summer?
As you let yourself reflect, check in: What’s rising for you? What does your body know? Maybe the energy stirring is excitement, or maybe you’re feeling a bit uncomfortable, or frustrated, or scared. Pause and notice what comes up.
Sometimes knowing that we want something is energizing, and sometimes it is hard — sometimes we feel overwhelmed, and like we can’t possibly make room for what we want. And, Richard Bach is right, it’s not like there is a whole lot of empty space in us just waiting to be dedicated to this new thing we want to become — that space is already full of other stuff.
So how do we create change?
“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I can change.”
~ Carl Rogers
We start by paying attention to who we are now, and to what our hearts are telling us about who we are becoming. It is this work that allows us to create the path forward. But it can be hard in our very full lives to make time to pay attention.
Take a moment now to stop and ask yourself: What Would Support Me in Making the Changes I Want to Make?
- Time set aside to focus just on you and what you want to be creating?
- Honest, open, reflective conversations with others who are creating change in their own lives?
- New tools for figuring out what you most want, getting out of stuck spots and accessing your strengths, your imagination, you best self?
Creating Your Year: A Coaching-Based Support Group
If what I just described sounds like what you need right now, I’m inviting you to come join 8-10 other people who are also on a journey of self-discovery and creation for a facilitated coaching group, meeting 10 times between January and November.
Focusing on the Energetics
The group will emphasize work on the energetic level. I will introduce some concepts about the seasons and flows of energy in our bodies and the larger universe from five-element acupuncture and some other disciplines. We will explore some ways of strengthening and nurturing ourselves, and moving with more ease, by being aware of and aligned with those flows. We will also play with shifting perspectives, with creating and using touchstones, with accessing our creativity, and, of course, with moving through our stuck places.
The goal, as always, will be to provide a space where you can be present with yourself and, from there, move towards greater fulfillment, a stronger capacity to make good choices and to trust them, and the experience of more and more moments of being truly present in your life.
The group will have between 8 and 10 participants.
Cost, Dates, Location
The cost is $325, and can be paid in three installments (contact me if you need details).
I will also be offering group participants a deep discount on individual coaching sessions during the time they are participating, and for the month after. I do this because sometimes people want to “do the work they missed” if they miss a session (not required), and because it can sometimes be very fruitful to add an individual coaching session or two to the group work to move more quickly through a particular process or delve more deeply into something that emerges. The cost for individual coaching sessions for group members is $45/session.
The group will meet ten times, monthly, on the second Tuesday of each month from January through November, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. We will skip a session in either July or August (we can negotiate which) to make room for a one-day retreat open to members of this group and to people who’ve been coaching clients or participated in another group with me. (There will be a separate charge for participation in that retreat.)
The meetings and retreat will all be held at my home in outer SE Portland. If you have questions about accessibility or anything else about the space, please contact me. (Please note: I do have cats. I will vacuum well and they will be kept out of the space while we are meeting, but if you are extremely allergic this is probably not the group for you.)
Want to reserve a spot?
The deadline for registration is January 4th. The space will only accommodate 10 people, so I encourage you to register quickly if you know you want to be a part of the group.
Please call or email me to let me know you want to participate, and then send a check for $100 to reserve your spot to me at 9777 SE Tenino Ct. Portland OR 97086.
